I heard Madison Gallery in La Jolla was holding a pop art exhibit by Mauro Perucchetti. This genius artist has created a mirror of modern day materialistic desires. The flawless swarovski crystal, botoxed beauty caught my eye and my interest. Our society is so driven by perfectionism and materialism I thought this would be the perfect afternoon escape from the store. I mean, who doesn’t want to see pretty sparkly things? This artist has really tapped into pop culture and the demands society has on us. I know I am obsessed with shoes and probably have wayyy too many.. if thats even possible. But I did stop to think, is this obsession driven by our social demands to always look fab and fresh? Or is this just a characteristic trait I learned from my fashionista, shoe obsessed mom? Im going with its just genetic. ;) So anyways, this exhibit not only sparkled from wall to wall but obviously told a story. A really svelte story! I couldn’t help but admire the colors, the vibrant details and sharp hues.
Coincidentally enough, my look fit right in. I love this ombre teal equipment blouse. The color way was done to perfection and the snake print is such a classic look for this over the top tee. My current denim obsession are these photo ready J brand distressed jeans. I love the ripped knees and faded whiskering. What’s photo ready? Just what it says… the skinniest of skinny that really make you look skinnier!! TA-DAHHH! Love em! Obviously got a little carried away with the teal, but I had the perfect shoe and went for matchy matchy. These cute Zara pumps are practical and pretty. I walked around all day without any discomfort. GO ME!! My last accessory was this adorable box clutch by BCBG Max Azria. Daytime chic transitioned perfectly to happy hour haute with my babe.
If you are in La Jolla, check out the exhibit. Im not sure how much longer it’s going to be around for, but definitely worth taking a peek. For now, I hope you enjoy some of my favorite pieces.
I was given the opportunity to attend Fashion Week San Diego and thought it was the most appropriate time to grab a girlfriend and head down to the Broadway Pier. My fashionista friend and long time client Selma Alameri was my date for the night. As we got to the venue we were stopped to snap pics of our very loud and proud looks. Too loud? Not a chance! I mean half the fun of fashion week is dressing up in a self expressive outfit that onlookers can either love or hate!
I wore Clover Canyon Grand Finale Fall 2013 pant suit. I paired it with an Equipment basic silk tank, Christian Louboutin Pigalle nude pumps and Givenchy quilted bag. My added touch was a cute ‘Happy’ necklace and my vintage Rolex. I was so inspired after fashion week in New York and after my recent visit to Warwick’s bookstore. I needed the motivation to wear something edgy, cool and unexpected. This colorful pant suit was the perfect fit for my personality.
Selma wore a black BCBG Max Azria blouse, RVN gold jacquard leggings, Alaia lace up ankle boots and Chanel’s beautiful Reissue bag. Her outfit was on point. I love that she didn’t go the safe route and wear what everyone else wears (all black) instead she rocked a daring look by adding the gold RVN leggings. She looked effortless and very fashion forward! BTW, did you see the shoes?? They were everything!!!! I lost my breath looking at those beauties. OH em GEE!
To give a little back story on FWSD, founder Allison Andrews is going on her 3rd year of presenting. She did a beautiful job organizing this event. The venue couldn’t have been at a more perfect location, the timing was spot on as we got to watch the sunset right before the show got started. To make things even better, they had a nice bar serving my fave of course.. CHAMPAGNE! ;) Luna bar was one of the many sponsors at the event so we grabbed a little snack before heading to our front row seats. mmm delish.
The runway shows were very entertaining and each collection was different from the rest. I think the designers did a great job of incorporating their personalities into their designs. I believe your brand should reflect who you are and what you represent. The music choice was really good too! I was dancing in my seat to a few songs! lol. I had a great time at FWSD and I look forward to seeing this event evolve in the coming years. If you are a San Diego native or new to the area, check it out next year! Make a fun girls night out of it, dress up in some daring duds and paint the town red! Loubi red of course! ;)
From time to time I fall into a fashion slump. I get a little lazy and laid-back with my style because San Diego is such a casual, go with the flow kinda city. After a week or two of alternating my v’neck tees w/ skinny jeans and my staple “bang around” lulu lemon gear, I park myself at the bookstore for inspiration on fashion trends. The back story of so many designers is filled with triumph, failure, success and a whole lot of trial and error. It’s the story along the way that makes the brand what it is today. Coco Chanel for instance started designing hats and to think it’s now an icon of a brand, a classic for over 100 years. Well, like Chanel, our style continues to evolve and change but what’s most important about fashion is finding out what we feel most confident and comfortable in & really tapping into what works for us.
So here I am at Warwicks bookstore in La Jolla checking out some Paris Style. Jeans are great but how can we dress em up so we don’t look so drab. I paired my faded grey J brand Jeans with an Equipment snake print cashmere sweater. Heels weren’t appropriate so I grabbed my favorite cheepy oxfords from BP at Nordstroms, they’re easy and comfy. Since I knew I’d be busy flipping through pages, I went for my Forever21 cross body faux leather satchel. I left motivated and excited. In fact, this trip to Warwicks was the inspiration behind my San Diego Fashion Week look. Stay tuned to check out what I wore and how art and architecture inspired my outfit choice.
I had a lunch date with girlfriends and just had “One of those days”. With NOTHING to wear, I somehow came up with this by total accident! But seriously, I’m so happy I did!!! I HAD to wear these Larkspur J brand jeans, like I could hear them screaming in my closet “WEAR MEEEEEE”. The patch detail and ornate stitching was so different from any of my other blue jeans. Since I wasn’t feeling black or white, I pulled this a-line blush colored top. My hair today was a complete disaster. I mean, I need my roots done worse than bad!! (I stole that line from my hottie tottie friend Selma Alameri, thanks babe!) Ok, the outfit… I always get sidetracked, maybe it’s a blonde thing. Anywayyys, I grabbed a merlot colored fedora to hide my hideous roots, picked up my Chanel reissue bag and needed 1 more element to bring this mismatched look together. Low and behold I remembered the un-opened Zara box sitting in my room.. TA-Fricken DA! My multi colored pumps had not only EVERY color I was wearing, but the laces matched my bag perfectly!! Love when that happens!! Needless to say I was a happy camper feeling oh so stylish!
Side note ** Sometimes it’s the look you never planned to work, or the dress you thought was totally NOT YOU, that ends up being AHHHMAZING! So, my advice… TRY NEW THINGS! You may surprise yourself!
